Our curriculum is designed to be broad and balanced, enabling pupils to deepen their understanding of the world, develop essential skills and build cultural capital. 

The wider curriculum is closely aligned with our other LAT schools and is supported by United Learning, ensuring it is coherent, clearly sequenced and progressive. This alignment supports consistency, high expectations and shared best practice, while allowing teachers to respond flexibly to the needs of our pupils. 

In the EYFS, children begin their wider curriculum journey through meaningful experiences that promote curiosity, language development and understanding of the world.

Teaching and Learning 

Across all foundation subjects, teaching is underpinned by: 

• Clear modelling and explanation 

• Explicit teaching of subject specific vocabulary 

• Opportunities for discussion, application and reflection 

Learning is linked to prior knowledge wherever possible, helping pupils make connections and remember more over time. 

Supporting All Learners 

Teachers use effective scaffolding to remove barriers to learning and ensure that all pupils can access the curriculum. This may include: 

• Visual prompts and models 

• Key vocabulary and supportive sentence stems 

• Guided practice or additional adult support 

• Appropriate challenge to deepen thinking 

As pupils become more secure in their understanding, scaffolding is gradually withdrawn to promote independence. 

EYFS Wider Curriculum 

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, the wider curriculum is delivered through a combination of adult‑led learning and child‑initiated play. The indoor and outdoor environment is purposefully designed and used to support learning across all areas, particularly Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. 

Children are encouraged to explore, ask questions and use language to describe their thinking through practical, real life experiences.
