Year 5/6 Geography Field Trip 2021
Following our studies of the different stages and features of rivers in our classroom, we wanted to become real geographers and actually study a river in nature. So, we travelled to Cadover Bridge where the River Plym runs through. From studying maps before embarking, we knew that this area of the Plym was in the upper stage, so we were able to predict what we would see. However, real geographers find evidence to prove their predictions.
While we were there, we not only observed the physical features of the river and its tributaries, but we also completed tests and recorded results (quantitative data) to measure the river’s width; the river’s depth; the river speed; the pebble size; and the pebble shape. We conducted our investigations at Blacka Brook first (a small tributary) and then further downstream on the main River Plym. Now we need to analyse our results back at class.
