Welcome to MKC
What is the MKC Club?
At HIgh View, our MKC (Military Children's Club) welcomes children from our service families or children who have a family member in the Armed Forces. The children support each other both inside and outside of school, working as part of a bigger team of Plymouth schools who represent all service children in the Plymouth area. Our MKC Heroes noticeboard shows events we have been involved in and we have helping hands boxes throughout the school, where we encourage our service child to put in ideas or events they would like to see going on in school. We meet on a regular basis where the children are able to share concerns, ideas or just simply talk to children who are in a similar situation.
Military Kids Club Events
Our MKC Heroes have attended many events since joining , they have attended meetings with M.P.’s, celebrations for the Queens Diamond Jubilee, Plymouth’s Lord Mayors Parade, been on BBC Spotlight and raised funds for the Royal British legion. This is just a taster of some of the activities this group has been involved in.
What is life like in a Service Family?
The Participation Team of Plymouth City Council have been working with children and young
people of service personnel and veterans to support them in making their voices heard, as the children have expressed that they do not always feel professionals understand their specific needs as children of Service families. The young people involved developed a script based on their personal experiences, and then worked with an animator to bring their ideas to life. The end result is a film to be used to raise awareness for professionals working with children and young people, to help explain the impact and what these young people thought could be put in place to better support them. It is important for young children to be heard.
