Hi, my name is Jane Swain and I live in Efford with my husband and daughter. Before becoming a parent, I spent 8 years in retail, working my way up from weekend sales team member to manager. After giving birth to my daughter, I decided not to return to my managerial role, instead supporting the store as a seasonal team member when needed.
When my daughter first started school, I volunteered at D.E.L.L Children's Centre, helping at their groups for a year. I re-joined the workforce a couple of years ago and worked as an Administrator for a company which provides specialist services to schools. This gave me a unique insight into the challenges faced by schools and has given me a new understanding and appreciation of the hard work and dedication of High View, in providing the best environment for our children.
I am currently volunteering as a Social Media Co-ordinator for two establishments: one a charity and the other, a non-profit organisation. I strongly believe that children are the future, and every child needs to be nurtured and encouraged. As a Parent Governor, I will utilise my varied skill set to benefit High View School for all our children.

It is a privilege to become a part of Team High View as a governor. Born a Plymothian and my family originating from Efford means I have an affinity and affection for this wonderful community. I have been a teacher for 25 years and have taught in both London and Plymouth.
I am currently the Deputy Headteacher at Lipson Cooperative Academy where, aside from 3 years in another school, I have worked for 13 years. I have previously been a governor at another city primary school; an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The reason I became a teacher was to make a difference to all young people. I have always chosen to work in schools where you really can raise aspirations and make a difference. Throughout my career, from South London to inner-city Plymouth, the fundamental reason I became a teacher has remained constant; to affect social change and social mobility for all students.
As a leader within the Plymouth context, this has become more prominent. I believe a great school with inspirational leaders can ensure social change and social justice for their communities. Therefore, I am excited and honoured to be a part of the High View Governor Team and look forward to helping, challenging and supporting the school to continue to be the very best that it can be.

I am the Headteacher of High View School and it has been great to have been part of the Governing Body here since I joined the school in 2014 and, prior to this, I benefited from being involved with the Governing Body within schools that I have previously worked within. Throughout this period, I have consistently found great satisfaction in such involvement and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities, insight and both personal and professional development it has provided me with.
To serve on the Governing Body of High View is an absolute privilege and as a Headteacher, it is a source of both challenge and support. Our members come from all walks of life, representing the local authority, staff, parents and community. Working alongside people with a range of skills is a great support for the school and together we create and share a common vision for our children and community. Working with parents on the Governing Body gives us a parents' perspective on how the school is running and what changes are necessary; they are a powerful voice and together with our parent surveys, we are able to respond swiftly.
It is a privilege to work in this capacity and help support our pupils, staff and community to achieve great things, in an environment where we all so strongly believe that 'Good Beginnings Never End '.

Current Term: 26/09/2022 - 25/09/2023

Having been a teacher within the Efford community for more years than I care to divulge now, I certainly feel that I have a solid understanding and great deal of respect for this wonderful community and the families within it.
Becoming a teacher for me was about making a difference to the next generation, and given that all-bar-one year of my career has been spent supporting the children and families of Efford, I feel well placed and well-informed in extending that support from just the classroom, to the classroom and beyond, as part of the Governing Body.
This is a new role for me but one that I feel privileged to be able to undertake. I look forward to supporting and challenging the Governor team to develop and grow so that the wonderful High View School may continue to thrive at the heart of this very special community.

My name is Mandi, I live with my husband and three dogs.Professionally, my previous background was in sales and training. I used to be a regional manger for Aviva Insurance, and held training conferences all over the UK. I started this job as a filing clerk at 16 and worked my way up. My experience is underpinned with strong people management expertise, having worked on large scale projects such as the launch of training systems and the introduction of new products to market. Customer Service has always been at the forefront of my training and I feel this has many transferable skills to teaching. With two young children, I needed to be home more, so went into HR and Payroll whilst volunteering at my children's school. I was then offered a job at their school and decided to train as a teacher, completing my training in 2009. I specalised in Early Years, and have worked at High View since I qualified. I am passionate about children's health, wellbeing and that every child reaches their full potential.I believe that my own experience of being a parent of two children having gone through primary, secondary, sixth form and university, alongside my working knowledge gives me the skill set to be a part of the School governance, supporting all children to achieve. -
