Friday 24 February 2023 World Book Day 2023 Every year, we love to celebrate World Book Day at High View. Therefore, it’s with great pleasure and anticipation that we are inviting your children to join us in these celebrations again this year on Thursday 2nd March 2023. On this special day, there will be a range of fantastic book related activities for the children to get involved with and we would love your child to dress up as their favourite book character for the day (or to wear some suitable and warm pyjamas as part of a bedtime story theme). Please don't feel you have to buy a special costume; you can use one from a previous year or get creative and make one at home! As well as dressing up for the day, your child will receive a £1 World Book Day token, to either buy one of the special World Book Day books or put it towards the cost of a different book of their own choice. More details about how to use the World Book Day Tokens will be sent home with your child on World Book Day.

This event is the UK's largest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge. The aim is to inspire and focus on making active journeys to school, improve air quality in our local neighbourhood and discover how these changes benefit the world. Teachers will be logging the number of active journeys made to school each day in their class between the dates of the challenge. And as a further incentive, the more active journeys we make, the more entries into each daily prize drawn by the organisers, Sustrans. More information to follow in the coming weeks.

Friday 19 November 2021 Academisation Update Further to previous information on this matter, the public consultation period for this has now ended, and I am pleased to let you all know that Hannah Woodhouse (who is the Regional Schools Commissioner for the South West) has approved High View’s application to convert to an academy, and further pursue joining the Learning Academies Trust. I would also like to take this opportunity to clarify that this doesn't mean we have yet converted to become part of an academy: instead, it means that we can now undertake the further statutory and legal work that needs to be completed around this prospect, and the aim is to complete conversion to the Learning Academies Trust at some point before the end of this Academic Year. Please be completely reassured that I will keep you all fully informed on progress towards this outcome as appropriate. Mr Trayte

Friday 22 October 2021 Be safe during Halloween We have spoken to all of the children about keeping safe and reminded them that people may not want to be visited for trick or treat this year, especially the elderly who are vulnerable, but also that receiving 'gifts' from strangers is a risk, as items could be contaminated. It does not mean that they can't still have fun though and we really hope you will find imaginative ways to celebrate this year. Whatever you choose to do with your children during Halloween, I hope you have fun and all stay safe.

High View continues to go from strength to strength and the ongoing support and collaboration of the staff, it’s pupils, parents and wider community are all highly appreciated. Although COVID-19 has continued to impact on us all, I am extremely grateful of how supportive you have been in ensuring that we are doing everything possible to minimize any impacts. As you are aware, the Government’s message is very much that we need to continue to be cautious as we move through the autumn and winter together. I am confident that you will continue to work with us to achieve this, when we return after the half term break. In the meantime, have a fabulous week and I will see you all on Monday 1st November 2021.Mr Trayte

Tuesday 7 September 2021 COVID-19 Please do not send your child in to school if they are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, but can you call the school as early as possible on the day, so that we can advise you of the procedures to follow. Please be assured that whenever a child is ill in school, we will always clean and disinfect the area, regardless of whether they have displayed symptoms of Covid or not. As winter comes, incidents of coughs, colds and sore throats usually increase anyway, but hopefully, with our Covidsafe practice of increased ventilation, additional handwashing and surface cleaning, along with our “Catch it Bin it, Kill it” routines, even they will reduce. In the unlikely case of a child or staff member having a positive test result, parents of those children who have been in close contact will be informed by NHS Test and Trace directly. Families will be supported whilst they are self-isolating, this includes remote learning, food parcels (if they are entitled) and teacher support. Please

Tuesday 13 July 2021 What is life like in a Service Family? The Participation Team of Plymouth City Council have been working with children and youngpeople of service personnel and veterans to support them in making their voices heard, as the children have expressed that they do not always feel professionals understand their specific needs as children of Service families. The young people involved developed a script based on their personal experiences, and then worked with an animator to bring their ideas to life. The end result is a film to be used to raise awareness for professionals working with children and young people, to help explain the impact and what these young people thought could be put in place to better support them
